The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Highway Company (AC FBiH) has signed a contract to continue the construction of the Hranjen tunnel, which will shorten the journey from Sarajevo to Goražde. The contract is worth 39.3 million KM, the AC FBiH announced, and the portal Klix.ba reports.
It was noted that the money was secured from the entity budget, under the item related to the construction of highways and expressways. The director of AC FBiH Elmedin Voloder announced the signing of this contract last week, stressing that the negotiations for securing money for the completion of the tunnel and the construction of access roads and complete infrastructure are nearing the end.
“The determination of the Government of FBiH and this management of AC FBiH is to complete the project and put the tunnel into traffic. After the tunnel is in operation, eastern Bosnia and neighboring parts of Serbia will be much closer to Sarajevo and other places in Bosnia and Herzegovina. All users will benefit directly from the construction of the tunnel, as travel time will be significantly reduced,” Voloder reminded. The Hranjen tunnel is a project of, as has been pointed out, special importance for FBiH.
The construction was supposed to cost 81 million KM, and most of the amount – 65 million KM was secured from the accumulated profit of BH Telecom. The work was stopped when only 35 percent of the project had been completed. For 35 percent of what was done, almost all the money was spent, or rather 97 percent of the funds. In April of this year, AC FBiH answered for Klix.ba that the construction will cost more than 200 million KM. At that time, it was also announced that there is a possibility of borrowing money for the completion of the project.
